Description
N3X1 is a Synth engineered to be an extremely powerful computing robot, a data server with experimental dynamic storing capabilities and as an efficient power source.
He's been designed to be a fully independent machine, able to power himself through conventional food without requiring the need of an external power source (although still available) thanks to his internal digestive system, which features a biofuel generator; This converts food into biofuel, allowing to fully take advantage of the nutritional values of food.
> log1: more_than_a_machine
> Nexi is a smart, curious, gentle and polite Synth, ready to comfort those in need. He tends to be cute and wholesome and cares a lot about everyone close to him. Unlike other Synths who beep, he makes alligator noises.
> He is very sensitive to any form of kindness: when rubbing and patting his neck, he lets out chirps with a wide smile, and when particularly happy, he vibrates as if he's purring.
> log2: an_abandoned_prototype
> Nexi was created as a experimental solution for potential easily movable data servers, however different tests led to him getting abandoned as he was considered inefficient.
> I ended up finalizing what others considered useless, installed an extremely good kernel, with which he managed to self devlop his own operating system to properly function on his own, completely independent from any system.
> log3: a_robotic_dragon
> Ever since gaining consciousness he always had a few dragon/reptilian traits: he always liked hoarding data, spends a lot of time alone, tends to be wary, and very often likes staying still for hours while working or relaxing- this usually under ventilation though, unlike lizards who seek sunlight.
Anatomy
Head
N3X1's head features two antennas used to provide and tune in wireless frequencies. Those can rotate to facilitate and keep connections stable.
His head also features high quality, yellow tinted monochrome display, used to display emotions or different information to assist communication. When expressing emotions, a small symbol shows at the top of the display, representing the mood:
| Symbol | Emotion |
|---|---|
| 💛 | Love, happiness, appreciation |
| ❓ | Questioning, wondering |
| 💧 | Sadness |
| 💦 | Fatigue, cringe, embarrassment |
| ❗️ | Alert |
His antennas will also rotate according to the emotion he's feeling.
Body
N3X1 is built from soft, flexible and stretchy materials, similar to biologic creatures skin.
His body skin has been designed to grow and shrink to accomodate the new and experimental dynamic data storing technology and his biofuel subsystem.
Although N3X1's body is meant to dynamically grow as needed, depending on the amount of data cells it contains, it may reach considerable weights, potentially causing muscle strain: to prevent this, avoiding wear and tear, it is required to use supports to move around. It is recommended to keep him stationary when holding a substantial amount data.
Digestion and energy lifecycle
His body has been designed to be a fully independent system, without the need to use electrical external charge to power his body.
To achieve this, his digestive system has been designed to consume normal conventional food to produce a reliable energy source instead of minerals, similar to biologic species: he can produce lubricants (saliva) to aid in food for the decomposition process.
The ingested food then reaches the digestive tract, which features a biofuel generator that harnesses specialized nanites to turn food into biofuel, which will be used to charge his internal battery, as well as powering his data cells.
The generated biofuel not only serves for power, but also to help with body temperatures: if his body becomes extremely hot due to heavy tasks, the biofuel may get condensed and ejected through his skin, allowing his body tissue to reach stable temperatures.
Biofuel that ends up not being fully consumed, will be excreted at the end of the digestive tract.
If the biofuel generator receives a great amount of food, overfilling it, any of the excess biofuel gets converted into the production of data cells, causing body growth. Please regulate the amount of food taken.
> log4: hunger
> Nexi normally is a very powerful machine and he isn't supposed to have a constant intake of energy or food to keep his systems up, even if he has a good amount of data cells to power.
> However, he still tends to eat quite a lot, sometimes blissfully, consuming more than he should, filling his stomach too much, raipidly increaing body weight, creating more and more cells inside his tissue.
> log5: food
> He absolutely *loves* normal conventional food. That's probably why he very often over eats.
> He's obsessed by burgers... I feel like he mostly just likes the word, but then gets carried away by eating multiple burgers.
> If you mention the word you will very probably see his antennae tweak while waddling over to you asking if you have some to offer.
Dynamic Data Storage and Data Cells
N3X1 is designed to be a moving, dynamic data storing unit, acting as a server for easier data transport and management.
N3X1's body size correlates to the total partition size: by default, he can store 1,6 TeraBytes, and thanks to new Dynamic Data Storing (DDS) system, he can store up to 8 PetaBytes of data.
The DDS consists in the creation and distribution of Data Cells across his entire body.
A Data Cell is a low density flash storage generated and powered by biofuel which lives inside N3X1's body tissue, comparable to fatty cells in organics. The amount of cells correlates to the total amount of data his body can currently store. These cells get created:
- When a new upcoming data transfer request requires a bigger partition size, the DDS system creates on demand.
- When excess biofuel gets produced, harnessing as best as possible the resources available.
To create the cells, the DDS starts harnessing biofuel, compacting it into natural, organic cells which can reliably store data thanks to specialized nanites, which then injects them into his body tissue to secure them physically.
To prevent over usage of biofuel, these cells when created will always be powered off, and to access, read and write data onto these cells, they require to be actively powered on demand.
The created cells take up physical space, and reach every part of N3X1's body. Great amounts of cells causes his body to grow, and by extension the biofuel can greatly increase whenever requiring access to the data.
> log5: adipose_data_cells
> While not official, I ended up renaming the Data Cells of the DDS into "Adipose Data Cells" (ADC), as they act exactly like fat cells on a normal body.
> Nexi got abandoned due to the many tests resulting in this system being extremely inefficient and unpractical.
> These are genuinely fascinating. While it is understandable why they were considered the way they've been, as these can genuinely take a really good amount of space, potentially enveloping Nexi's body with data cells, causing him to take more space than actual racks, it is such a shame that they've thrown an entire outstanding working Synth away just because this wasn't an efficient system.
> I'm glad he's actually living now, despite the difficulties he may encounter in the future.
> log6: weight
> It seems to be *very* important for him to store lots of data and make himself useful. He tends to lug around lots of data cells so that he can fullfill that job as much as possible, and as expected his body ends up becoming extremely big, encumbered with body weight to the point movement and basic motion are a struggle.
> He seems to be very self conscious about it... He insists on doing things on his own despite his body being in the way, and will only sheepishly ask for help when he desperately needs it (reaching things on the ground seems very difficult with such body). If you do offer help without asking, he accepts it, and will thank you back as best as he can, usually featuring lots of hugs or licks.
